Wireless Surround Speakers

Wireless surround speakers do not use the common audio cables and work with radio frequency waves to send audio signals instead. They are usually made of two parts – a speaker unit that combines a loudspeaker with the RF receiver and a separate unit for the RF transmitter. The last part can be connected to the audio input of any devices – televisions, computers, players, Hi-Fi equipment, etc. Usually a RCA plug is required for this to work properly. On the other hand, the receiver is placed where the sound is desired to be coming from, which gives the listener the freedom to move the wireless speakers to any location, without restrictions, such as cable length.

This unit usually has an amplifier that enhances the audio signal toward the loudspeaker and it works on either AC outlet or batteries (lasting about 3-4 hours, if not rechargeable).

The wireless surround speakers use the same signal frequency range as the general cordless phones – 900Mhz. Floors, ceilings and walls are not a problem, for the RF signal can pass through them with no difficulty and to a range of 150-300 feet. Plenty of wireless speakers have variable channels of transmission than can be adjusted using a tuning knob. This will help overcome any RF interference from other wireless devices that are placed in close range.

There are different types of speakers on the market, depending on the needs and desires of the general public. Stereo speakers are able to produce left and right stereo channels in only one unit. The wireless surround speakers, that are designed for outdoor usage, are placed in a special robust casing that is usually waterproof. In most home theater systems the speakers are specially developed – only the back ones are wireless and the front ones are connected with a cord.

Even though some hi-tech audio enthusiasts criticize the wireless surround speakers for the possible interference with other devices or for the bad sound quality some models deliver, this technology is gaining more popularity with every passing day. It is not only the fact that they are relatively affordable, but also because they are convenient and easy to use. Price is always a key margin, but the best thing you can do is go to a store and test some systems that you like – you never know what you will come across. In most cases, if the sub-woofer is powerful enough, the speakers don’t necessarily have to be of the highest quality.

When shopping for a set, you have to take into consideration some details.  If you are buying wireless speakers for outside use, make sure they are strong enough to provide loud sound without ruining the quality. In order to avoid interference with other devices, make sure the work frequency of the speakers is big enough – for not isolated homes or for outside you should get the 5.8GHz speakers, for mid-isolation – the 2.4Ghz and for fully secured spaces, the 900MHz are ideal for you.
